July 4, 2022 – Starting on or about July 6, 2022, crews will be applying the weed spray Trillion (a broad leaf herbicide used to treat noxious weeds) on the steep slope of the North Saskatchewan River surrounding the LRT tunnel portal. This work will take approximately two days. Work will occur during the daytime hours only, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., weather permitting.
In order to prevent accidental contamination, there will be no herbicide sprayed within 30m of the North Saskatchewan River. Noxious weeds in that area will be controlled using mechanical measures.
Although not generally harmful to people and pets, please avoid walking in the area that has been sprayed until it has dried (temperature and humidity will impact dry time). The steep riverbank slope is fenced, and the public is strongly advised not to access the slope for any reason.
TransEd has an Integrated Pest Management Plan with the goal to minimize the use of pesticides and to use them as a last resort after mechanical and other measures have been used or if deemed required by the Alberta Weed Control Act. All herbicide applications are reviewed by the City of Edmonton before spraying commences and notices are sent to the public. All applications must follow provincial and federal regulations and must utilize a licensed applicator to do so. Areas with exemptions are not sprayed.
