Rail Grinder Work on the Valley Line Southeast LRT

Noise, Notice

Update – This work is scheduled to start on Thursday, October 7

September 27, 2021 – Starting on or about Friday, October 1, crews will be performing rail maintenance work along the 13 km alignment. The work will entail the operation of a rail grinder to grind and polish the track, improving the track performance for the trains. Work will start at the Mill Woods Stop and gradually advance to the 102 Street Stop Downtown. This work will take place during the evening and early-morning hours from approximately 6:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for a period of approximately 2 weeks. Train testing will continue during the daytime hours.

There will be noise associated with this work such as grinding from the rail grinder, along with smells associated with burning metal. TransEd is committed to doing everything possible to mitigate noise and vibrations during work in this area. The noisiest works will be completed earlier in the evening, where possible.

To accommodate this work, the public will be impacted in the following areas:
• There will be overnight noise, sparks, and smells associated with this work.
• Pedestrian access will be maintained.

During this time, please watch for and follow all traffic detours and direction of construction personnel.

TransEd is committed to following all City of Edmonton bylaws and regulations. TransEd will obtain necessary noise and overnight roadwork permits to minimize major daytime traffic disruptions. *City of Edmonton Bylaw C14600.
