Major Lane Closures at Whitemud Drive

EDMONTON, AB – November 9, 2018 – Over two weekends in January, 2019, Whitemud Drive will be closed at the 75 Street/66 Street overpass to accommodate installation of the LRT bridge spans.

An update on exact dates will be issued prior to the actual installation.

Over the first weekend, during night hours only, eastbound traffic will be directed onto Whitemud off-ramps and across the overpass to continue traveling on Whitemud Drive. Westbound lanes will be fully accessible during this closure.

On the second weekend, during night hours only, westbound traffic will be directed onto Whitemud off-ramps and across the overpass to continue traveling on Whitemud Drive. Eastbound lanes will be fully accessible during this closure.

These closures will only happen during nighttime hours (between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.) on Friday nights with Saturday nights as contingency for inclement weather.

To accommodate this work, the public will be impacted in the following areas:

  • On the first weekend , during night hours only, eastbound traffic will be directed onto Whitemud off-ramps and across the overpass to continue traveling on Whitemud Drive.
  • On the second weekend, during night hours only, westbound traffic will be directed onto Whitemud off-ramps and across the overpass to continue traveling on Whitemud Drive.
  • During the day, a portion of the jersey barriers will be replaced with posts to provide access for crews to move girders.

There will be noise associated with the work. TransEd is committed to following all City of Edmonton bylaws and regulations, and has obtained an overnight roadwork permit so that work can take place during nighttime hours in order to minimize major daytime traffic disruptions. Vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic disruptions will vary by location. During this time please watch for, and observe, all traffic detours and direction of construction personnel. We appreciate your patience as we build the Valley Line LRT.
