Vehicle

UPDATE – April 28, 2017 – Traffic lane shifts start this weekend.

EDMONTON, AB – March 27, 2017 – A reminder to area residents that, starting on or around March 31, traffic disruptions will occur along the 66 Street corridor from 28 Avenue to 41 Avenue. Generally, construction activity will move in the direction from south to north as work progresses.

Work on 66 Street (and, therefore, related traffic impacts) will continue through 2020.

Drivers will experience shifting of lanes, lane closures and detours as work is being done to prepare for, and install, the LRT rail. These changes and detours be in effect 24 hours per day, including during peak hours (6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.) and overnight hours (9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.).

We ask for your understanding and patience as you will see continuous changes throughout this, and the next four, construction seasons through 2020. For the most current up to date information in your area, please visit https://transedlrt.ca/advisories/.

To accommodate this work, the public may be impacted in the following areas:

  • 66 Street northbound/southbound traffic from south of 28 Avenue to north of 41 Avenue. Beginning early April or late May, lane shifts and lane closures will occur throughout the day and evening as construction progresses. Motorists will be directed to shift lanes or to take temporary detour roads beside the existing southbound lanes. These adjustments will allow LRT track work to begin in the east boulevard between intersections. Temporary traffic signals will be installed at 28 Avenue, 31 Avenue, 34 Avenue, and 38 Avenue while these detours are in place to prepare for further upcoming northbound and southbound lane adjustments.
  • Overnight lane closures at the Intersections of 66 Street and 28 Avenue, 34 Avenue and 38 Avenue are expected late April and early May so that workers can complete the paving of temporary detours. There will also be a temporary traffic signal installed at the 28 Avenue and Youville Drive/Hewes Way intersection in preparation for future upcoming eastbound and westbound lane adjustments at these intersections. Delays at these intersections during the 2017 Summer season is to be expected as construction progresses.
  • 36A Avenue on the eastside of 66 Street will close completely for a period of time beginning in late April. 31 Avenue east of 66 Street will also be fully closed in Spring/Summer 2017. The closure of these two roads will allow for road and track work for the LRT.

There will be noise associated with the work. TransEd is committed to following all City of Edmonton bylaws and regulations, and has obtained an overnight roadwork permit so that work can take place during night time hours in order to minimize major daytime traffic disruptions. *City of Edmonton Bylaw C14600.

Vehicle and pedestrian traffic impactions will vary by location. During this time please watch for, and observe, all traffic detours and direction of construction personnel.
