Louise McKinney Riverfront Park and Henrietta Muir Edwards Park – Trail Closures

The Cloverdale Footbridge and connecting trails are now closed for Valley Line LRT construction. Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to use alternate routes as suggested on site signs or in the map here.


On or around the week of July 11, 2016, in support of the construction of the new Tawatinâ Bridge, full trail closures will be in place in the areas of Louise McKinney Riverfront Park and Henrietta Muir Edwards Park, including the Cloverdale Footbridge trail.

Construction is underway on the 13.1-kilometre southeast leg of the Valley Line LRT. As a part of these works, specific trails within the North Saskatchewan River Valley must be closed.

On or around the week of July 11, 2016, in support of the construction of the new Tawatinâ Bridge, full trail closures will be in place in the areas of Louise McKinney Riverfront Park and Henrietta Muir Edwards Park.

To accommodate this work, trail closures will take place in the following areas:

  • The Cloverdale Footbridge trail connecting Louise McKinney Riverfront Park to Henrietta Muir Edwards Park.
  • South trail of Louise McKinney Riverfront Park, running past the River Valley Adventure Co.; parallel to the North Saskatchewan River, to the north entrance/exit of the Cloverdale Footbridge, and up the path leading to the Chinese Garden.
  • Several staircases in Louise McKinney Riverfront Park will be closed.
  • Lower trail of Louise McKinney Riverfront Park running east to Cameron Avenue.
  • West trail of Henrietta Muir Edwards Park running to and from Rafters Landing.
  • Trail in and east of Henrietta Muir Edwards Park.
  • South trail of Henrietta Muir Edwards Park running to and from the Muttart Conservatory, including pedestrian overpass on 98 Avenue.

Alternate Routes:

North Side of River:

To travel east:

Stay on Grierson Hill and go south on Cameron Avenue to reconnect to trails.

 To travel west:

Stay on Grierson Hill to connect to trails. Cyclists must dismount on sidewalks.

South Side of River:

To travel east-west:

Stay on trails adjacent to 98 Avenue.

The work will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. To ensure pedestrian and cyclist safety, these River Valley trails will remain closed until summer 2019.

For your safety, please stay away from the closed areas during construction.

Before construction on the 13.1-kilometre southeast leg of the Valley Line LRT can begin this spring, TransEd Partners must conduct preparatory work that will affect trails around Louise McKinney Park and Henrietta Muir Edwards Park.


On or around April 18th, 2016, in support of the construction of the new Tawatina Bridge, construction of an access road, site preparation and removal of some facilities in the proximity of the River Valley trails in Louise McKinney Park and Henrietta Muir Edwards Park will take place.

To accommodate this work, the public may be impacted in the following areas:

• South trail of Louise McKinney Park, running past the River Valley Adventure Co.; parallel to the North Saskatchewan River, to the north entrance/exit of the Cloverdale Foot Bridge, and up the path leading to the Chinese Garden.
• Several staircases in Louise McKinney Park will be closed.
• The south access to the Cloverdale Bridge from 98th Avenue will be maintained at all times.
• As a part of this work a number of trees will be removed from Louise McKinney Park and Henrietta Muir Edwards Park.
• Traffic and pedestrian disruptions may vary, dependent on location.
• There will be noise associated with the work.

The work will take place between 7 a.m. to 7.pm.

To ensure pedestrian and cyclist safety, trails will remain closed until approximately June 6, 2016.

For your safety, please stay away from the closed areas during construction.

Trail Closure -LMcK and HME parks


UPDATE – April 12, 2016

Before construction on the 13.1-kilometre southeast leg of the Valley Line LRT can begin this spring, TransEd must conduct investigative and preparatory work.

Starting on or around April 18, 2016 geotechnical works will take place in the River Valley and the future tunnel portal area.

The work will include testing small-diameter boreholes in order to assess ground conditions along the LRT alignment.

This work will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. It is expected to be completed by May 22, 2016. Each site will be restored to its original condition after the work is completed.

Works will take place in the following areas:
Geotechnical testing to take place in Louise McKinney Park, north and northeast of the Cloverdale Pedestrian Bridge. The bridge will not be obstructed. The trails will remain accessible.

Six test locations will be near trails (see map). Flag persons will be on hand if needed.
